I’m Eline from Belgium

I like to travel! Discover the world and get to know new people. During my holidays I mostly make a combination of cultural highlights and local activities but if possible I also like to hike in the nature. Good food and a good night rest are important to me as most of my trips are active.
I have been lucky to travel and see several places around the world, to some I went for a long time.
My first, long and far away experience was in Honduras, I went there on exchange with AFS, I lived in a small town in a lovely host family and went to a local school (agronomy). I went back already multiple times to know see my friends and family and discover more lovely places. As there are no direct flights from Belgium so for example last time I took benefit of it and added some extra stops: I spent some days in New York, Washington D.C. and El Salvador.
Secondly I had the opportunity to participate in a short exchange program to China with my university for more than 3 weeks. We stayed at a university in Hangzhou where we followed Chinese introduction courses (economics, food, history, calligraphy, …) in the morning and had English talks with the students to improve their verbal skills. We also travelled to Shanghai for a weekend and ended with a visit to Beijing.
My last long term period outside Belgium was when I went on an internship (Erasmus) to Tampere, Finland for more than 4 months. During my stay I also went to nearby cities like Helsinki, Turku and Vasa. And I enjoyed a student trip to Tallinn (Estonia) and St. Petersburg (Russia).
As a kid I was lucky my parents travelled with us during summer holidays to France or Austria and my parents supported me to see more of the world. With high school they organize every year a culture trip somewhere in Europe for the last grades to which I could participate. We went to Slovenia and next year to Catalonia (Spain). Sometimes we also went on shorter getaways just across the borders to the Netherlands to bike or we stayed in other parts of Belgium.
I also try to make one city trip a year: Rome (Italy), Napoli (Italy), Venice (Italy), Barcelona (Spain), Madrid (Spain), Paris (France), Amsterdam (Netherlands), Wien (Austria), Prague (Czech Republic), London (UK), Budapest (Hungary), ...
Other destinations I went to are Istria (Croatia), Mallorca (Spain), Sarajevo and Jahorina (Bosnia and Herzegovina).
Besides travelling I like to go to sport events, I was used do to sports (volleyball for about 15 years and later ultimate frisbee) but since my knee surgery in 2019 it's limited to running, swimming and getting around with the bike. And I like to go for a drink with friends or enjoy a nice meal at a restaurant.
