My Friends and I are doing the Via Frangecina (The ancient Canterbury to Rome pilgrimage route) with an extra bit added to incorpórate Scotland and England, in the next 4 years. The whole walk is in 160 stages, starting in Cape Wrath, Scotland. To date we have completed all the Scottish sections, (sections 1 to 29), and in October we Will be starting the walk in northern England, starting in Morebattle, the last village in Scotland to arrive in Howarth, in West Yorkshire (sections 30 to 43). As the last 2 sections of the walk to Rome are in 2030, by which time I will be 84, I want to make sure that I will complete this Trail in full. So in september, 2026, I plan to walk sections 137 to 160 from starting in Rome. The 24 stages starting in Rome on the 1st September 2026, and ending at Cassio on the 24 Sept 2026. The route is an ancient pilgrimage route, so most of the accomodation is in hostels (refugio) run by the church or affiliated bodies. Most are bunk beds. The plan is to fly into Rome on the 31st Aug 2026 and fly out from Milan on the 25th Sept2026. I have booked all the hostels and all the flights. This Will be a back packing route, so experience in backpacking would be Good. If anyone is interested in participating, you Will be most welcome. I have prepared a full travel Schedule (with costing), and can send it to anyone interested.
