In search of the Aurora - Drive to Wiseman, Alaska
15. 2. - 19. 2. 2018 (5 day trip)
United States
I live in Seattle, WA. I am a software engineer here and I love to travel. My plan is as follows - 02/15 night - Reach Fairbanks, Stay in Fairbanks 02/16 - Drive the Dalton, reach Wiseman/Coldfoot, stay the night 02/17 - Drive to Atigun pass, do some dog sledding or snow shoeing, stay in coldfoot/wiseman 02/18 - Drive to Fairbanks, stay at fairbanks 02/19 - Back to seattle The reason I choose 02/15 night to depart is because the kp number is the highest on 02/16, i.e. 4 and I will like to be in Wiseman. I have already made the drive on the Dalton 3 times before, twice during winter and once in summer. The lights from wiseman is unbeatable as you are right on the auroral belt. Even the drive on that road is very unique. You get to see the mighty frozen Yukon river, the trans alaskan pipeline, the arctic circle and many more. We can stay the night either at Coldfoot camp, or Arctic Gateaway B&B in Wiseman. I am looking for somebody who enjoys being in the car, knowing to drive is not necessary but definitely a plus. I am not looking for someone to just share the cost. I have been there before and everytime, I want somebody else to experience what I have. For me, it is like seeing it new through their eyes. Please let me know if interested since we dont have much time. The weather is good, the kp is high, it is definitely worth a shot.
