Cancun - Guatemala / Belize - Other CA countries

I think I would buy a round trip ticket to Cancun, from Dec 15 - Jan 6ish. Trip in Mexico is not really a problem, but I hope I can find someone to travel with in other central america countries. Guatemala (and Belize) might be fine, but El Salvador, Honduras and maybe Nicaragua can be a hassle. I'm hoping to rent a car or take a bus in these countries. In general, I'm a flexible person, but my budget is limited of course.
